Employee Self-Appraisal Quickstart Guide

Employee self-appraisals can be completed easily and quickly by following the steps outlined below. If you have questions or have difficulty accessing the program, please contact your Human Resource Department or Administrative User.

Starting the Program

To Start the Program:

  1. Open your browser and enter your client address in the address line. Please see your Administrative User if you do not have this link.
  2. Enter your username and password in the Client Login fields. Press Enter on your keyboard or click the Login button.

Completing a Self-Appraisal

Step 1: Set Future Goals (if applicable)

Note:

Your Manager may already have entered some Goals. You may add new Future Goals as well.

  1. In the Logged In As box make sure your Role is set to Employee.
  2. From the main menu, click Employee Documents, then click Employee Goal Tools. (Note that the term Goal may have been customized.)
  3. Click the Future Goals tab.
  4. Click the Add New Button.
  5. Enter a new Goal name in the Name box. For easy viewing of the titles, keep them brief.
  6. Enter a detailed description of the Goal in the Description box.
  7. Click Spelling and/or Language Check to review your text.
  8. Enter a suggested weight in the Weight box.

    Note:

    The total weight of all Goals must equal 100%. All Goals and weights are finalized by your Manager.

  9. If you would like to assign this Goal a due date, enter the date in the Due Date field (dd-mm-yyyy) or click on the calendar icon and select the desired date.
  10. Click Save on the toolbar.
  11. If desired, add specific Goal Action Steps by clicking Add New in the Action Steps box. Enter a Name, Description and Due Date for the Action Step.
  12. Click Spelling and/or Language Check to review your text.
  13. Click Select to enter the Action Step or Cancel to leave the page without entering the Action Step.
  14. Repeat until all Action Steps have been entered.
  15. Click Save on the toolbar.
  16. Repeat steps 3-14 until all Goals and applicable Action Steps have been entered.

Step 2: Evaluate Factors (if applicable)

  1. In the Logged In As box make sure your Role is set to Employee.
  2. From the main menu, click Appraisals, then click Evaluate Factors. (Note that the term Factor may have been customized.)
  3. From the Overview or Evaluation tab, select a Factor to evaluate from the Select Factor to Evaluate box.
  4. The weight of the selected Factor may or may not display to the right of the Factor name depending on your Company Settings.  A full description of the Factor appears in the Description box.  Click on the expander at the bottom center of the Description box if necessary to view the entire description.
  5. Select the rating that best represents your perfor­mance by typing it in the box above the Employee scoring bar, clicking on the scoring bar at the appropriate level, or selecting the Performance Level Description on the right side of the screen (the level’s number will automatically be assigned as the rating).
  6. Comment on the Factor (if desired or required) by placing your cursor in the Employee Comments box below the rating scale and typing your comment.
  7. Click Spelling and/or Language Check to review your text.
  8. Repeat steps 3-7 until all Factors have been evaluated.
  9. Factors you have evaluated are indicated in green text with a check mark (√) next to it.

Note:

There is no need to click a save button while working in the Appraisal Screens.  Performance Pro will auto-save your changes.

Step 3:  Evaluate Goals (if applicable)

  1. In the Logged In As box make sure your Role is set to Employee.
  2. From the main menu, click Appraisals, then click Evaluate Goals. (Note that the term Goal may have been customized.)
  3. From the Overview or Evaluation tab, select a Goal to evaluate from the Select Goal to Evaluate box.
  4. If applicable, rate yourself on any Action Steps pertaining to this Goal by clicking on the Action Step text expander (triple lines) on the right side of the page. The Action Steps will display.
  5. From the Rating dropdown box, click the down arrow and select the rating.
  6. Repeat until all Action Steps have been evaluated.  Ratings on Action Steps will be averaged together to produce a score for that Goal.
  7. From the Evaluation tab, evaluate yourself on the Goal overall.  Select the rating that reflects your performance by typing it in the box above the Employee scoring bar, clicking on the scoring bar at the appropriate level or selecting the Performance Level Description on the right side of the screen (the level’s number will automatically be assigned as the rating).
  8. Comment on the Goal (if desired or required) by placing your cursor in the Employee Comments box below the scoring bar and typing your comment.
  9. Click Spelling and/or Language Check to review your text.
  10. Repeat steps 3-9 until all Goals have been evaluated.
  11. Goals you have evaluated are indicated in green text with a check mark (√) next to it.

Step 4:  Summary Comments

  1. In the Logged In As box make sure your Role is set to Employee.
  2. From the main menu, click Appraisals, then click Summary Comments.  (Note that the term “Summary Comments” may have been customized.)
  3. Populate the available fields on the Summary Comments screen as appropriate. There may be a variety of fields available on this screen (comment fields, check boxes, dropdown menus, etc.).
  4. Click on the View Current Appraisal link if you should need to refer back to the appraisal.
  5. Click Spelling and/or Language Check to review your text.

Step 5: Finish Appraisal

  1. In the Logged In As box make sure your Role is set to Employee.
  2. From the main menu, click Appraisals, then click Finish Appraisal
  3. Make sure all Factors and Goals have been evaluated (evaluated items are indicated by a green check mark (√) for completed and items still requiring attention are highlighted in yellow).  If you haven’t completed what is required, click on the item title to be taken to the corresponding section.
  4. If you wish to view the self-appraisal before you mark it as Ready, click the View Current Appraisal link. The appraisal may also be printed from this screen.
  5. When all items have been entered appropriately and no additional edits are desired, from the Ready tab, click the Mark Ready button.  (Note the term "Mark Ready" may have been customized.)
  6. Click the Exit button.

Note:

Once you mark your appraisal Ready, you will no longer be able to make edits and your manager will be notified (if feature is activated) that your appraisal is done.

YOU HAVE COMPLETED YOUR SELF-APPRAISAL!

Step 6: E-signing the Appraisal (if applicable)

  1. If you are required to E-sign your appraisal (your organization may not utilize this feature), from the toolbar, click Home.
  2. Under the To Be Signed widget, click the appropriate appraisal link.
  3. Review the appraisal one last time.
  4. Under the E-signature heading at the bottom of the appraisal, click the Agree or the Disagree radio button.
  5. If you would like to add a comment click the Add Comment link. Enter your comments and click Save to save your changes without closing the comment dialog box. Click Save & Close to save your changes and close the comment window. Click Cancel to exit the screen without saving.
  6. Select the Check this box to sign this document electronically checkbox.
  7. Click Save.

Other Features                                                                                        

Self Notes

If this feature is enabled, you can leave a note to remind yourself of your activities, progress in achieving your Goals, meeting Factor standards, or anything else related to your performance.

To add a Note:

  1. From your Home Screen, click the Add button in the Employee Notes widget.
  2. To share the Note (if this feature is activated) with your manager, place a check in the Shared checkbox.  A Notify Appraiser checkbox will appear.  Check this box if you would like the appraiser notified of the Note.
  3. Enter a Title in the Note Title field, a date in the Note Date field, and a description in the Note Description field.  Basic word processing options are available.
  4. Click Spelling and/or Language Check to review your text.
  5. Click Save on the toolbar.
  6. Click the Print or PDF button to print the Note.

To edit or delete a Note:

  1. From your Home Screen, in the Employee Notes widget, click the name of the Note you want to change. Make your changes and then click Save on the toolbar.
  2. To delete a Note, click the Delete icon next to the appropriate Note, then click Yes to indicate that you are sure you want to make the deletion. The Note is permanently deleted.

Viewing Your Current Appraisal

To view your current appraisal:

  1. On the Home page click the My Current Appraisal button.
  2. You may view your assigned Factors and Goals and your self-appraisal scores.

Note:

Completed appraisals, which include the appraiser’s scores, cannot be viewed from this screen.
